Funeral services for long-time parishioner, Rose Chisefsky, will be held Monday, January 31st, at Beall Funeral Home, in Bowie, MD. Visitation begins at 11:00 AM, followed by a service at 12:00 PM. Our condolences to the family.
As you know, I will leave St. Matthias next week and report to St. Andrew the Apostle Church in Silver Spring, Maryland. I know you will welcome Fr. Avelino Gonzalez who will be coming to you from his appointment in Ecumenical Relations in the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of Christian Unity in the Vatican. He was ordained in 2006 and served as pastor at two DC parishes prior to his posting. Fr. Gonzalez was born in Cuba but grew up here in Maryland. Prior to entering the priesthood, he served as an engineer at the Naval Surface Weapons Center. I know you will extend every courtesy to Fr. Gonzalez and smooth his return to pastoral life. I am grateful for the many kindnesses you have offered me, as well as your support and service to your parish and school. Please keep me in your prayers as I leave you.
