St. Matthias Apostle School is a learning community of faith and service, rooted in the values and beliefs of the Catholic Church, and dedicated to promoting educational excellence for all students.
As a school community, the parish, administration, faculty, staff, and parents work together to create a positive and supportive learning environment for our students. Student success depends on our ability to work together.
We have been called the “hidden jewel” of Prince George’s County for good reason. St. Matthias is a small school that serves students in Pre-kindergarten through eighth grades. Our dedicated teachers and staff are committed to providing an excellent education in a safe and caring environment. Two full-time resource teachers are on hand to provide additional support for students, and to assist our classroom teachers. Our families are actively involved in our school community, and our Pastor provides spiritual guidance that inspires, encourages, and renews us.
The field of education is an ever-changing, dynamic arena that challenges us to prepare students for 21st century life. We are proud of our accomplishments, and are always looking for ways to improve instruction. We use technology as a tool to enhance learning in all subject areas. Our computer lab is always busy with students working on skills, research, and presentations. We also have two libraries that are brimming with extensive collections of books and materials for students to borrow.
Our theme for the 2007-2008 school year is “Write Now! Succeed Tomorrow!”
We chose this academic theme to promote the writing process, and to help our students become effective communicators.
